Founder

Nep + Plu's story begins with a personal quest. For over a decade, Darryn forged a career as an engineer in American commercial vehicle development. He excelled in an environment defined by precision, innovation and problem solving. Yet, beneath that professional fulfillment, a quieter but persistent longing grew stronger: The desire to create something meaningful closer to home.

Years earlier, he and his wife had scoured South Africa for beautiful cat furniture for their home, only to find uninspiring options. Frustrated by the persistent gap in high-end locally-made pieces, he knew that it was time to act. In 2025 he shifted gears, leaving behind the stability of his engineering career to pursue his entrepreneurial vision full time.

Channeling his engineering expertise, he dove in - designing Nep + Plu's flagship wall-mounted hammock and steps from the ground up - bringing it to life right here in South Africa. What began as a heartfelt need for their own home grew into a mission: To make premium, thoughtfully designed cat furniture, accessible to fellow South Africans - all while supporting our local-is-lekker economy.
