The Modern, Minimalist Cat Floor Bed

This creation pairs Mia Mélange's hand-coiled cotton rope craft with Nep + Plu's eye for feline comfort. The base and walls are coiled and stitched entirely by hand in Mia Mélange's Stellenbosch studio, using 100% cotton rope grown by South African farmers who are members of the Better Cotton Initiative.

Inside we've included a plush cushion with a removable cover made from 100% cotton twill that gives your cat a soft, enclosed nest that curls with their body. The raised rim mimics the secure, walled-in feeling that cats instinctively seek out when resting, making this modern and minimalist floor cat bed the ground-level counterpart to the elevated security of the Nep + Plu wall hammock.

The Story

The story behind this piece goes back to 2019, when we approached a small Stellenbosch studio to make a custom bed for Pluto - our very first cat who is actually one of the quiet reasons why Nep + Plu exists at all. He loved it instantly, and so did we, and it held up so beautifully over the years that we always knew it belonged in our collection one day.

That day came seven years later, when we sat down at Mia Mélange to bring the idea to life. What we didn't expect was that the same artisan who'd coiled Pluto's very first bed would remember us.

And so this piece brings that story full circle - two Cape Town based studios, one shared belief in things made locally and mindfully.
